The days are getting longer, there are baby elephants afoot and we're getting ready to celebrate the Earth — there's no shortage of things to do in and around Portland in April.
Here are some of the things we're most looking forward to.
🐘 Go see a baby elephant
Tula-Tu, the two-month old Asian elephant calf, is out and about at the Oregon Zoo and ready to meet you. Forest Hall, where Tula resides with mom Rose-Tu, is open from 10am to 2pm, with limited capacity and viewing times. From what we've heard, the lines get lengthy so head up early.
- Timed general admission tickets available online; $26 for adults, $21 for children ages 2-11.
🌎 Earth Day
April 22 is Earth Day, but you don't have to wait until then to start celebrating the spirit of the holiday. From litter pickups and plant swaps to family-friendly parades to beach cleanups, there are plenty of ways to get involved in the weeks around the actual day.
🎣 Catch a show
Legendary jam band Phish will play the Moda Center on 4/20. We're guessing the weed shops will be busy that day.
🤣 Get a case of the giggles
No foolin' here: The Sandy Jug is hosting a night of comedy Tuesday night, April Fools' Day.
- Admission is free, but reservations are recommended.
🏃 Drink and dash
Get a workout and have beer — or cider or NA drink — at the Bridge to Brews Race on the 13th. Starting and ending at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, the race offers 10k, 8k and 5k options that feature routes over some of our most beloved bridges.
- Or test your mettle, and bladder, in the "Bev Mile," where racers see who can complete four laps, with a beverage of your choice between each one. More info here.
🌹 Celebrate the "Avenue of Roses"
The 19th annual 82nd Avenue of Roses Parade kicks off at 9:30am on the 26th to celebrate East Portland and the diversity of 82nd Avenue and its surrounding neighborhoods.
- Details here.
🏀 Hoops' last hurrah
The Blazers have a number of intriguing games over the next couple weeks as they fight for a playoff spot, but the last game of the regular season — and possibly the last one until opening day of next season in October — is a Sunday matinee on the 13th against the Lakers.
🐰 Hop to it
There's a whole host of events on and around Easter Sunday on April 20 — a brunch cruise on the Portland Spirit, a candy and wine pairing and, of course the requisite egg hunt — to get you in the holiday spirit.
