Oregon Outside: Rainy-day hiking at Tryon Creek

Tryon Creek State Park is the only state park in Oregon located within a metropolitan area, and with miles of trails for hikers, bikers and horses, it offers a quiet respite from city life, rain or shine.
Zoom in: The park, sitting on more than 650 acres just south of Lewis & Clark College, is crisscrossed with trails that intersect, so hiking can be a choose-your-own-adventure situation.
- One of the more popular routes is the 3.4-mile Triple Bridge Loop.

- The mosses, ferns and evergreens seem to pop just a little more under a fresh coat of rain and remind us that, even during the most dormant part of nature's cycle, the forest still teems with life.
