While some parts of the U.S., especially along the Gulf Coast, are seeing a once-in-a-generation snowstorm, you have to go back decades — sometimes more than a century — to see all-time snowfall records for some counties in Oregon.
How it works: NOAA captures reported snowfall maximums from each county, along with the exact measurement location.
Zoom in: The metro area has seen its share of blizzards.
Multnomah and Clackamas counties each recorded its snowiest day during the same storm — racking up 39 and 35 inches, respectively, on Jan. 9, 1980.
You've got to look a little further back for Washington County's record — it saw 17.2 inches of snow on Jan. 3, 1895.
Zoom out: Statewide, Harney County easily tops the list with a one-day snowfall record of 60 inches — 5 feet! — on April 8, 2009.
But that still pales in comparison to the nation's record snowiest day: Boulder County, Colorado, got 76 inches on April 15, 1921.
