Portland is often described as a book lover's paradise, so we've been looking forward to Multnomah County Library's list of the most checked-out library books of the year.
Why it matters: The annual roundup offers a glimpse into the reading habits of Multnomah County residents — and perhaps a bit of inspiration for anyone looking to build their next list of must-reads.

- "The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store" by James McBride (1,395 checkouts)
- "The Women" by Kristin Hannah (1,212)

Top titles in digital checkouts
- "Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow: A novel" by Gabrielle Zevin (11,884)
- "Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants" by Robin Wall Kimmerer (6,967)
- "Tom Lake" by Ann Patchett (6,704)

- "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" by Suzanne Collins (3,212)

Fun fact: Mo Williams dominated the list of physical checkouts for kids and teens, taking all of the top 10 spots, but didn't register within the top 10 for digital checkouts, which skewed more toward young adult literature.
Editor's note: This story has been updated to correct the name of author Mo Willems.
