Twelve new city council members will take their seats in Portland's overhauled government structure next month and we wanted to get to know them.
The latest: Axios Portland reached out to the incoming commissioners to ask what's at the top of their priority list and one thing about them their constituents might not know.
Responses have been edited for length and clarity.
Angelita Morillo, District 3
Policy priority: Morillo said one of the first things she'd take on is banning the use of artificial intelligence by property management companies like RealPage, which has been accused by the federal government of using algorithms to inflate rental prices across the nation.
RealPage has strongly disputed the government's assertions.
What she's saying: "Housing costs in Portland are too high, and people deserve relief. Other cities like San Francisco have already banned AI software like RealPage, and Portland can follow suit."
Fun fact: In high school, Morillo's Constitution Team won a national competition and she got a chance to meet Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
