Jamie Dunphy, District 1
Policy priority: Repealing Portland's noise code
What he's saying: "This policy empowers police with subjective law enforcement abilities, allowing an officer to determine something is 'plainly audible' and shut it down without recourse or accountability," Dunphy told Axios in an emailed statement, adding that this was also his aim as a member of the board of directors for MusicPortland.
"It is disproportionately used on professional music businesses that are heavier in bass and drums, and tend to have Black and brown audiences."
🦸 Fun fact: Dunphy is a self-described nerd and cosplayer, who creates "reproductions of helmets and movie props" that he posts on "an Instagram account that almost no one follows."
