The holiday season can be a busy time — between gift shopping, light displays and markets — but don't miss out on the festive twists local bartenders are putting on classic cocktails.
Here are six bars where you can find peppermint hot toddies, eggnog martinis, mulled wine, mocktails and more.
2725 SE Ankeny St.
Pair a comforting plate of pot roast and grits with an eggnog "coquito style," mixed with coconut, house-made pistachio liqueur, matcha, brandy and nutmeg. Or try the spiked hot chocolate with Fernet and cacao whip on top.
Miracle Pop Up at Deadshot
2133 SE 11th Ave.
At this ultra-popular pop-up, the mugs and decor take center stage, but the libations are just as fun. The Jingle Balls Nog (featuring cognac and sherry) and Christmapolitan (vodka, cranberry sauce and rosemary) are crowd-pleasers.
500 SE 8th Ave.
Locals know that at this dive, it's Christmas all year long. There are string lights from floor to ceiling, wreaths and tchotchkes you'd find in your grandma's Christmas cabinet. What it lacks in bougie cocktails it makes up for in cheap pints and a friendly neighborhood crowd.
920 E. Burnside St.
At "Sleigh Love" the menu is full of slushies, toddies, Spanish coffees and gingerbread old fashioneds. Inside, ornaments hang from every surface and the colorful mood lighting will make you want to stay forever — but there's a 90-minute time limit per party.
2800 NE Sandy Blvd.
In this sprawling but cozy space decked out with vintage furniture and fixtures, you'll find a sweet potato, coconut eggnog alongside a "full body toddy" and a rosemary-peppercorn cranberry gin and tonic.
235 SW 1st Ave.
Portland's favorite Halloween-themed bar throws on a Santa hat for the month of December. The "Feliz NaviDEAD" — a concoction of mezcal, allspice, cranberry and lemon — will "run you over like the reindeer did to grandma."
