Bite Club: Burgers at Tulip Shop Tavern

What to try: Americana-inspired burgers that come in all shapes and sizes (smashed, doubled up, fish n' chipped or vegan) are complemented by an array of sides like thick-cut fries, piled-high wedge salads, hot wings and warm Dos Hermanos pretzels with spicy queso.

• Rotating daily specials — like chopped cheese, corn dogs and hot chicken sandwiches — routinely sell out.

Best bites: We ordered the double smash burger, which was equally crisp and juicy, and a veggie tavern burger. The latter was served with a lentil-filled patty (crunchy, not squishy!) and topped with pickles, shredded lettuce, American cheese and fry sauce.

• Each item was solid and exceptionally tasty without feeling heavy. So much so that I found my way back there again the next night.

The bottom line: On a busy night, food can take 40 minutes to an hour to get out to you. But that's no problem — the atmosphere is lively, loud and the neighborhood crowd is laid back.

• In summary, a pretty damn good place to dine (and drink — they have those, too).
