Maxine Dexter wins Oregon's 3rd Congressional District

Former Democratic state lawmaker Maxine Dexter beat Republican challenger Joanna Harbour to represent Oregon's 3rd Congressional District, the Associated Press reports.

Why it matters: Dexter's win was expected in the solidly blue district, which has been represented by retiring Rep. Earl Blumenauer for nearly three decades.

By the numbers: As of Tuesday at 8:15pm, Dexter had captured 68% of the vote, while Harbour trailed at just over 26%, AP reports.

Yes, but: In vote-by-mail Oregon, fuller results may not be known until the end of the week.

Between the lines: Oregon's 3rd Congressional District covers most of Multnomah County but also stretches east to cover parts of Hood River and Clackamas counties.

State of play: Dexter, a physician, campaigned on her record as a state lawmaker — including work to expand access to naloxone and bills aimed at building more affordable housing.
