What Keith Wilson would do first as Portland's next mayor

Keith Wilson, the green energy trucking company owner and nonprofit founder, has laser-focused his campaign for Portland mayor on ending unsheltered homelessness within one year if elected.

State of play: Compared to the other leading candidates in the race who sit on the city council, Wilson has intentionally positioned himself as a political outsider and has capitalized on their foibles to emerge as a front-runner in the final weeks ahead of Election Day.

Axios asked the five candidates for mayor who've qualified for public matching funds the same question: What's the first policy you'd enact or change in office?

Here's what Wilson said.

Top issue: Homelessness

What he's saying: "My first task won't be to single-handedly enact or change policy, but to build a coalition of city council representatives from every district in Portland."

"That same city council coalition will be critical to advancing the business of city government on my key platform priorities: homelessness, public safety, and housing."
He also plans to hire "a top-notch city administrator with a proven track record of experience and success to oversee every department."
