Naomi Pomeroy's last restaurant, L'Échelle, opens

What they're saying: Pomeroy hinted at a new brick-and-mortar project — her first since she closed Ripe Cooperative — last month during her backyard Garden Party series.

• "Naomi would have wanted us to press on to open the restaurant, and we want to follow through on the vision she was so instrumental in creating," Luke Dirks, Pomeroy's longtime business partner, told Eater Portland.

Dig in: Building on Pomeroy's prominence as a pop-up pioneer, L'Échelle, which translates to "the ladder" in French, will operate only four nights a week for the next few months as the team puts the final touches on the restaurant.

• Light versions of French-inspired bistro food — like rabbit pate, chicken schnitzel and shallot butter smothered on Cafe Olli bread — will be served along with a curated wine list.
• There'll be a rotating menu nightly, with specials written on a chalkboard. The goal is to make it "feel like a backyard hangout dinner party," Dirks told Eater.
