Under the backdrop of the St. Johns Bridge yesterday, hundreds of Portlanders gathered to celebrate the life of the late, award-winning chef Naomi Pomeroy — who had a profound impact on the city's culinary scene.
The vibe: Tables, draped with white linen and dotted with bouquets, were filled to the brim with all kinds of food — berry-stuffed pies, accoutrements like jams, cheeses and fruits, as well as casseroles, lasagnas and grilled meats — all brought by attendees.
A DJ played upbeat '80s music as children ran across the grassy field of Cathedral Park. Some of Pomeroy's loved ones gave short, sweet speeches. Guests chatted and shared memories.

What they're saying: A concrete blockade served as a makeshift memorial wall, where people spray painted and wrote notes in Sharpie to the chef.
One read, "I'll always remember that BLT you made me," while another said, "Finally dancing in the park with you."

The bottom line: Portland will miss you, Naomi. And we'll never forget you.
