We all know warm weather is fleeting, so why waste it by staying inside?
Here are eight things to do around Rose City this weekend — from hot air ballooning to touring Portland's bookstores via bike, you may have trouble fitting everything you want to do between errands and laundry.
Thursday
🎤 If you have Lana Del Rey drag lying around, the Sad Girl Summer show hosted by local queen Sugarpill may be just the place for you. Doors open at 7pm at Black Water on NE Broadway. Tickets start at $12.
🎭 Musical actor Jill Van Velzer stars in the Bob Dylan retrospective "Girl From The North Country" at the Keller Auditorium at 7:30pm, through Sunday. Tickets $34.75+.
Friday
🎈 Turn your eyes toward the sky at Tigard's annual Festival of Balloons — and maybe even take a tethered ride yourself. Tickets $15 and good for the entire weekend.
🦆 Kickstand Comedy nights are back for the summer at Laurelhurst Park. Pay your respects to the ducks in the pond and then head over to the shaded lawn to quack at jokes from local comics. Starts at 6:30pm, free.
Saturday
🎣 Attention anglers! Grab your rods and head to the inaugural Bass Bash to help rid the Molalla River in Canby of invasive smallmouth bass, hosted by Native Fish Society. 10am-6pm. Register in advance.
🍻 Beer lovers should head to McMenamins' Edgefield for the 6th annual Brewfest, featuring over 100 brews, ciders and malts, and also food with background noise from local bands. $30 for entry plus 10 food and drink tokens. Doors open at noon.
✂️ Shop beloved secondhand clothes, crafts and hobby supplies from merchants at the Makers Swap Meet at Borough Home Studios on N Williams from 12-4pm. Free.
Sunday
😂 Comedian Ronny Chieng is still hot off his 2022 special "Speakeasy" and role in the blockbuster "Crazy Rich Asians" movie. Now he's on the road promoting a new show, "The Love To Hate It Tour," at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Show starts at 7pm, tickets $69+.
📚 Take a spin with other book lovers on the Bookstore Bike Ride as part of the Bike Summer series. Starting at Broadway Books and ending at Wallace Books in Sellwood, riders will get the chance to peruse 16 bookstores along the way. Ride kicks off at noon.
