Bite Club: Ahi tuna wonton tacos at The Love Shack

The Love Shack — Slabtown's newest hotspot brought to you by the folks behind vegetable-forward restaurant G-Love — relishes in spectacle.

  • Miniature espresso martinis, ahi tuna wonton tacos and Viet pork croissant banh mis make their way via push carts to diners — who then choose what looks good and receive a stamp on a bingo-card menu in return.

🍸 The menu: There are two menus — the cart offerings and kitchen offerings, which are generally larger portions and include the classic burger and mezze platter (hummus, baba ganoush, the works).

  • My group stuck with what was on the cart — pok pok laab lettuce cups with spicy lime yogurt and toasted rice, pickled onion rings, oysters and lox and caper-topped brioche waffles.

🌮 The bite: Everything is miniature! And delicious. The wonton taco was a standout, where ahi tuna is bathed in an umami-rich Thai chili sauce and topped with an avocado whip (so good I snagged two).

  • The bite-sized lettuce cup and lox brioche waffle were also very satisfying.
  • And although we didn't order it, the $65 prime rib — donned with a sparkler, à la bottle service at a Las Vegas nightclub — caused a stir every time it came out of the kitchen.

🪩 The bottom line: While tableside service is not new in the culinary world (think steakhouse caesar salads or dim sum), The Love Shack's spin feels like a fun game of roulette where you win every time.
