Amy Dotson has brought big names to the Portland Art Museum, including Guillermo del Toro, David Byrne, and costume designer Ruth E. Carter.
She's the director of the Portland Art Museum's PAM CUT and the artistic director of the Tomorrow Theater and currently is curating the exhibit Future Now: Virtual Sneakers to Cutting Edge Kicks, with Portland's own Osmose Design and Sneaker Week.
Her Best Day Ever centers on the SE Division around the Tomorrow Theater, which is in a former vaudeville and adult movie theater.
- "I'm inspired by the wildly collaborative nature of the creative joy in our city, through food, art, storytelling, movement, sometimes all rolled into one," she told Axios.
☕ First, she'd go for coffee: "My husband and I let our two teenagers sleep in and head for coffee with our dog, Azu, at Moore Coffee."
- She loves the fire pit and the cappuccino.
🍳 Next would maybe come a brunch of comfort food with a sweet and savory egg sandwich at My Vice Food & Spirits, which features wall-to-wall pop culture art from Ace Troy.
🛼 In the afternoon, Dotson might go roller-skating at Oaks Park or for a rain hike in Forest Park with her daughter.
👟 Another option would be engaging in her "run to pastries" tradition with her son, where they race to a favorite sweet treat destination (usually Champagne Poetry or Mikiko Mochi Donuts).
🍲 For dinner, she'd go to Oma's Hideaway. It "has the best décor to cheer you up on a rainy night, and their boba jello shots don't hurt either. I dream of their roti and their incredible pork belly bowls."
- Alternately, she'd hit up Someday, on an alley off Division: "It legit has the best hot dog I've had outside of Coney Island, but Oyster Sundays in the backyard during the summer are the place to be."
🎨 And for evening fun? "If we have friends in town we take them to Hopscotch. You choose your own adventure and experience art in new ways."
- "Afterwards we pop next door to The End and get a pretzel-kimchi velveeta dip nightcap."
