More than two dozen Valley demonstrations are planned for Saturday's nationwide No Kings protest against President Trump.
Why it matters: Thousands are expected to take to the streets to denounce ICE's expected enforcement ramp-up in Phoenix, the Iran war and other Trump priorities.
The big picture: More than 3,000 events are scheduled nationwide for a day of nonviolent action.
- The grassroots movement returns as high gas prices, long TSA lines and immigration enforcement backlash have dramatically weakened Trump's voter approval ratings.
Zoom in: The main Phoenix protest will begin at 2pm near City Hall at 4th Avenue and Washington Street.
- Other events are planned throughout the day in liberal neighborhoods (North Encanto Historical Neighborhood), conservative enclaves (Fountain Hills), retirement communities (Sun City) and beyond.
Flashback: No Kings debuted last year with protests in July and October.
- The October demonstration drew nearly 15,000 people to the Arizona Capitol and tens of thousands more statewide.
What we're watching: Northwest Valley Indivisible, which is leading the opposition to ICE's planned conversion of a Surprise warehouse to an immigrant detention center, is organizing eight West Valley events.
- More than 8,000 people turned out at their October No Kings events, which spanned the GOP-controlled Congressional District 8.
- "Nothing like this has ever happened in Arizona's 8th District — not in size, not in coordination, and not in the number of communities involved," per Northwest Valley Indivisible co-chair Brent Peak.
