There's an abundance of Arizona chefs and restaurants on the James Beard Foundation award semifinalist list. Since I haven't tried most of them, I decided to grab lunch Friday at Testal Mexican Kitchen, home to "Best Chef" semifinalist Fernando Hernández.

Mr. Pickle's Sandwich Shop opened its first Arizona outpost in north Scottsdale last week, so I decided to see what the California eatery has to offer.
Details: The chain relocated its headquarters to Arizona last year under new ownership, according to What Now Phoenix.

Arizona's culinary scene has reason to celebrate this week.
What's happening: Twelve Arizona chefs, two restaurants and one bakery were named semifinalists for the prestigious James Beard Foundation awards.

Arizona's first shared workspace and laboratory for startups in the biotechnology and life science industries is now open in downtown Phoenix.
Driving the news: Development company Wexford Science & Technology held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Connect Labs on Jan. 19.
Trevor's Liquor opens second location in north Phoenix

If you're a fan of good alcohol and you live in the north Phoenix and north Scottsdale area, you're in luck — Trevor's Liquor opened its second location in the Valley.
Where: 7000 E. Mayo Blvd., near Scottsdale Road and Loop 101.
Metro Phoenix dads will pitch scorpion solution on ABC's Shark Tank

Two East Valley dads will appear on an episode of ABC's "Shark Tank" next Friday to pitch their pest control solution.
What's happening: About five years ago, childhood friends Aaron Gonzales and Tony Gonzales formed Slick Barrier, a company that produces and sells a coating for the exterior of homes that prevents scorpions and other pests from getting inside.
