Philly among final 3 cities in contention for the DNC in 2028

State of play: DNC chairperson Ken Martin said in a released statement that the party will make a final selection in the coming months.

• In the latest round, the party eliminated Atlanta and Chicago from consideration to host the big event.
• The convention is set for Aug. 7–10, 2028.

Zoom in: If Philly is selected, the convention would be held at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Flashback: The party originally named the handful of cities under consideration to host the presidential nominating convention back in March.

• Since then, the city's host committee, Pick Pennsylvania, has sought to woo party officials, even enlisting help from Philly native and "Godmother of Soul" Patti LaBelle.
• Party officials conducted a site visit in Philly in late April.

The other side: Republicans have already selected Houston, Texas for their convention.

Flashback: Philly most recently held the DNC in 2016.

What's at stake: The convention will bring the national spotlight and an economic surge to the host city, but also likely protests and increased security.
