Scoop: Quinta Brunson's field trip fund raises big bucks for Philly schools

State of play: The campaign, which launched in December, aims to raise $200,000 by the end of June, Kathryn Epps, president and CEO of the Fund for the School District of Philadelphia, tells Axios.

• The fund plans to set up two opportunities for district teachers and schools to apply for field trip funding — in the fall and spring. (Charter schools are not included.)

By the numbers: Nearly 400 individuals, corporations and foundations have contributed so far.

Fun fact: It's the nonprofit's first fundraising campaign named after a person.

How it works: If the campaign hits that $200,000 goal, Epps says, an endowment will be established to help fund field trips every year.

What they're saying: Epps notes it's unusual for a new fundraising effort to generate this much money so quickly.

• "This goes to show the power of a celebrity name or somebody that is notable and has a platform, and can really galvanize a community," Epps says.
