Painted bunting spotted again in Philadelphia

State of play: The painted bunting has been spotted at the West Philly park for at least the fourth consecutive year, a spokesperson for Bartram's tells Axios.

The intrigue: It's likely the same male bird is visiting Philly each year.

• That's because buntings, like many migratory species, like to establish patterns, preferring to revisit specific habitats year after year.
• But painted buntings usually spend the winter in places like southern Florida, the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America.

👀 How to spot one: Head over to grassy meadow along Bartram's Mile Trail at the north end of the park.

• Go in the morning.
• You can borrow binoculars from the garden's welcome center, open Fridays and Saturdays from 9:30am–4:30pm.
• Listen for its chirp.
