Trump administration calls for change at SEPTA

What they're saying: At a news conference in D.C. on Tuesday, Duffy gave an update on SEPTA's inspections and called for change.

• "You can't have a transit system that is not safe, has fires, that's undercapitalized and mismanaged," Duffy said.
• He added that he's working with Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro, Mayor Cherelle Parker, and U.S. Sens. John Fetterman (D) and Dave McCormick (R) to find a solution "on how the management can change and how the safety record can change with SEPTA."

The other side: SEPTA did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.

Catch up quick: Under a federal mandate following recent train fires, SEPTA must inspect 223 aging Regional Rail cars. So far, 135 have been inspected, federal officials said Tuesday.

• SEPTA recently got an extension to complete the assessment by Nov. 14.
• The inspections, which involve pulling cars out of service, have caused delays and crowded commutes.
