It's unofficially summer — so start planning for unusually warm temperatures in the coming months, according to a recently released NOAA climate outlook.
Why it matters: Heat is a top weather-related killer in the U.S. and can knock out utilities.
The big picture: Every state in the Lower 48 is projected to be hotter than average.
Zoom in: The Philadelphia region has at least a 50% chance of temps climbing above their seasonal averages between June and August.
Context: The Philly region's top temp so far this year was 86 earlier this month, per NOAA.
Threat level: More than half of Philly residents live in so-called "heat islands" — hotspots with higher temperatures compared to surrounding areas.
Plus: Low-income residents and residents of color are more likely to live in hotter neighborhoods, per a city report.
