Mayor Cherelle Parker is pleading with Eagles fans to remember her "golden rule": Don't climb light poles.
The big picture: The death of a Temple University student following the Birds' win in the NFC Championship last month β not to mention someone shooting off a gun into the air in a large crowd β has city officials issuing an only-in-Philly PSA ahead of Sunday.
What they're saying: "Climbing or attempting to climb up a light pole or a bus shelter, or really any structure for that matter βΒ it can lead to tragedy," Parker said a news conference Thursday.
Zoom in: City officials are ramping up preparations for Super Bowl weekend.
Road closures
Potential road closures starting Sunday could make a massive chunk of Center City off-limits to traffic.
- On Sunday morning, road closures are possible along South Broad Street running from Lombard to Chestnut Streets (including side streets).
- Additional closures are possible Sunday around City Hall, stretching from 12th-16th Streets and Spring Garden to Lombard Streets, as well as I-676 ramps at Broad Street.
- City officials are advising drivers to avoid the area.
Parking restrictions
Parking restrictions will be in effect starting 10am Saturday along the South Broad Street corridor around City Hall.
- More parking restrictions will go into effect on Sunday further south along South Broad Street and nearby side streets, and in the area of Cottman and Frankford Avenues in the Northeast.
- Pro tip: Unmoved vehicles may be relocated via a so-called "courtesy tow."
Transit detours
π SEPTA route detours are possible starting Sunday along the Market-Frankford, Broad Street, and Regional Rail Lines.
Security
π¨ Police commissioner Kevin Bethel says he'll have "all hands on deck" over the weekend.
- Expect traffic control and emergency medical services posted at key locations.
- Plus: State police will be on standby to assist the city if needed.
The bottom line: Expect a big party in the streets if the Birds bring home the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday.
- But Bethel warned that police will eventually start clearing revelers to prepare streets for the work week.
- "Let's celebrate, let's have a good time and at some point, we are going to have to shut this thing down," Bethel said.
