Philadelphians are splurging on back-to-school supplies this year

State of play: Philly parents plan to spend an average of $761 per child on back-to-school items — up $144 from last year, per Deloitte.

• And despite supplies costing more this year, 9-in-10 caretakers surveyed also plan to spend the same or more than 2023.

Yes, but: If budgets become tight, more than a third of people said they wouldn't hesitate to cut back on school supplies, per Deloitte.

• Plus: 33% of those surveyed planned to buy pre-owned products when they were available.

Zoom in: Tech products accounted for the largest average spending for Philly parents ($538), followed by clothing and accessories ($312).
