"Abbott Elementary" gets crossover episode in new season

The new season of ABC's "Abbott Elementary" starts in October, but there's already buzz about an upcoming crossover episode.

Driving the news: Creator and co-star Quinta Brunson teased the collaboration while appearing with the Abbott cast during a recent panel discussion at Comic Con in San Diego, per Variety.

She shared few details but said the episode could "change television as we know it."

Zoom in: Disney's catalog, which includes ABC, features several possible contenders for a crossover — most notably "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."

The intrigue: Some internet sleuths have rediscovered a post on X from Rob McElhenney, creator and co-star of "It's Always Sunny," suggesting a crossover episode between the two shows back in February.

The inspiration? A Willy Wonka-themed pop-up in the U.K. that went viral for … underdelivering.
