NWA's first burger week set for May 3-9

State of plates: Participating restaurants across Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, Bentonville and Siloam Springs will offer a designated Burger Week burger during the event.

• Burgers will generally be served à la carte, with sides and drinks sold separately.

Joseph Nguyen, known on social media as The Hangry Pedaler, organized the inaugural event after seeing similar promotions in large cities. He wanted to raise money for a local nonprofit focused on food insecurity, he told the Fayetteville Flyer.

By the numbers: Nguyen said his first-year fundraising goal is $5,000.

The big picture: Arkansas is the most food-insecure state in the U.S., with an estimated 19% of residents lacking the financial resources or physical access to consistently obtain nutritious food.
