A new outdoor playscape for all ages is under construction at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
Zoom in: The area along the museum's outdoor trails will include a waterfall, a stream visitors can play in, and a large stone that visitors can use to test their strength, said Samantha Best, senior manager of outdoor experience.
- The existing ravines will also be safely accessible, allowing visitors to experience nature from a different perspective, she said.
The intrigue: While not a traditional playground, it will include a multi-person slide and multi-person swings, Best said.
The big picture: The playscape is being constructed as the museum is undergoing a major expansion, and Best says the new outdoor experience is one more way to welcome the community. The project also includes art sculptures.
What's next: The museum does not have a firm date for the opening of the playscape, but it's tentatively set for sometime after spring next year, Best said.
- The museum expansion is set to open June 6.
