Arkansas Rep. Steve Womack wins reelection, casino license reversed

Traditionally red Northwest Arkansas reelected Republican Steve Womack of Rogers to represent the 3rd Congressional District.
Why it matters: He will represent nearly a quarter of Arkansas' population for the next two years.
By the numbers: With about 80% of precincts reporting, Womack got nearly 64% of the vote, according to the AP.
What they're saying: "I work every day to deliver and improve the lives of Third District Arkansans," Womack said in an emailed statement Tuesday night.
- "Serving my state and country is the greatest honor of my life, and I will never take it for granted."
Context: Womack has served as representative of the 3rd District since 2011.
Zoom out: Republican U.S. Rep. incumbents Rick Crawford, French Hill and Bruce Westerman all won their seats.
Meanwhile, voters also decided on statewide ballot initiatives regarding Arkansas Scholarship Lottery money and the future of casino licensing in the state.


Issue 1 passed with nearly 90% of the vote, according to the AP.
- Arkansas Scholarship Lottery money will now be allowed to be used for vocational and technical schools instead of only traditional academic colleges.
Issue 2 passed with about 56% of the vote.
- The casino license issued in Pope County by the Arkansas Racing Commission will be revoked and any future license will have to be approved by county voters.

State Sen. Jim Dotson (R-Bentonville) won NWA's only state senate seat up for grabs during this election cycle.
- He received about 63% of the vote from his district, with about 91% of precincts reporting. The district covers north-central Benton County and includes parts of Bella Vista, Centerton and Bentonville.
