Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson to teach at University of Arkansas law school

Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson will teach at the University of Arkansas law school as an executive in residence, the university announced.

State of play: Hutchinson, who practiced law after graduating from the state's flagship University of Arkansas School of Law in 1975, will teach a course on leadership in state and federal government in the spring.

Background: Well before he served two terms as governor, former President Ronald Reagan appointed Hutchinson as the youngest U.S. Attorney in the nation for the Western District of Arkansas.

He also served in Congress before going on to be the Drug Enforcement Administration administrator and undersecretary of homeland security for Border and Transportation Security under former President George W. Bush.

Flashback: The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported in March that U of A trustees said they would consider Hutchinson to replace board president Donald Bobbitt when his tenure ends at the end of 2025.

Hutchinson ran for the Republican nomination for president and dropped out in January.
