Louisiana voters are casting votes in the presidential election and many other contests this year. Polls are open from 6am to 8pm local time on Tuesday.
Why it matters: With Louisiana expected to support former President Trump again, the most interesting decisions will come from farther down the ballot as the state votes in the primaries for all six of the state's House of Representatives seats and additional local races and propositions.
Zoom in: The primary for the state's six House of Representatives seats includes reelection campaigns for Congress' top Republicans, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (Shreveport) and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (Metairie).
- It also includes the newly reshaped 6th Congressional District, which state lawmakers redrew to be majority Black after a federal judge ruled it violated the Voting Rights Act.
Between the lines: In Louisiana's jungle primary system, any candidate who earns more than 50% of the vote wins outright.
- If no candidate does that, then the top two finishers will head to runoffs Dec. 7.
