Several public fireworks shows are planned in New Orleans metro for the Fourth of July holiday.
Why it matters: It's illegal for residents to shoot fireworks in Orleans Parish and most of Jefferson Parish.

Sparks in the Park (Saturday, June 29)
- Bogue Falaya Park in Covington from 5:30-9pm.
- The free festival has fireworks, food vendors, patriotic tunes from the Covington Concert Band and a hot dog eating contest.

Slidell Heritage Festival (Saturday, June 29)
- The 26th annual festival is at Heritage Park. Gates open at 5pm and fireworks are at 9pm.
- It's $15 for ages 13 and up. Everyone younger is free.

Happy 3rd of July (Wednesday, July 3)
- Goldring/Woldenberg Great Lawn in City Park from 6pm to 9:15pm.
- Robin Barnes, the songbird of New Orleans, will sing the national anthem at 7:15pm followed by a patriotic program from the Marine Forces Reserve Band.
- Fireworks are at 9pm from the top of the Peristyle.
- Blankets and chairs are encouraged. Hamburgers, hot dogs, beer, water and wine will be for sale, along with food from food trucks. (Go deeper)
Uncle Sam Jam (Wednesday, July 3)
- Lafreniere Park in Metairie from 3-10pm.
- This free festival features big musical acts, food vendors and a large fireworks show. No outside food or drinks are allowed.
- Chapel Hart is the headliner, along with Niko Moon, The Frontmen, Mad City and the Marine Forces Reserve Brass Band.
- Free parking is available at the Shrine on Airline with shuttle service. Parking prices for the closer lots have doubled from last year. It's now $20 for regular parking and $100 for VIP passes that include upgraded parking and private bathrooms. (Go deeper)
Independence Day Celebration (Wednesday, July 3)
- St. Charles hosts its annual event at the West Bank Bridge Park.
- Gates open at 6pm, and fireworks are at 9pm. (Go deeper)
Go 4th on the River (Thursday, July 4)
- 9pm in downtown New Orleans along the riverfront.
- The fireworks are visible from the Hilton New Orleans Riverside to Crescent Park in Bywater to Algiers Point on the West Bank.
- CNN plans to broadcast part of the fireworks show nationally. They'll be streamed live on WWL.com too.
- The General Roy S. Kelly fireboat from the Port of New Orleans will do its patriotic water show at 6:30pm followed by the 9pm fireworks, which will be launched from dueling barges on the river. (Go deeper)
St. Bernard Salutes America (Thursday, July 4)
- Frederick J. Sigur Civic Center grounds from 5:30pm to 10pm.
- This free festival in Chalmette has live music, food vendors and a 9:30pm fireworks show.
- Headliners are The Top Cats and Adam Pearce from "The Voice." (Go deeper)
Fourth of July festivals and events
- Celebrate in Spanish Plaza from 2-9pm with free music and events benefiting the New Orleans Musicians Burial Fund. James Andrews and the Crescent City All Stars headline.
- Celebrate on the Moonwalk with the French Market District from 5:30pm to 9pm. The National WWII Museum's Victory Belles headline. (Go deeper)
- Celebrate at the Ogden Museum with the New Orleans Orleans Concert Band at 12:30pm. It's free. (Go deeper)
- Food trucks will be set up at the Moonwalk and Crescent Park too, which both have views of the river fireworks show.
July 4 Mississippi River cruises (Tuesday, July 4)
- The Steamboat Natchez is doing Fourth of July jazz cruises. There are daytime and fireworks viewing options. (Go deeper)

Feed the Multitudes (Tuesday, July 4)
- Victory Church is hosting its 35th annual food giveaway at 10am in Metairie.
- The event has free hot food, plus snoballs, groceries, shoes and haircuts.
