Renderings show affordable housing development near new Titans stadium

The latest: At Tuesday's East Bank Development Authority board meeting, Elmington president Ben Brewer described plans for 323 affordable housing units, an 8,700-square-foot daycare center and 12,700 square feet of street-level retail space.

• The development will include 372 parking spaces.
• Brewer says the team is pondering what retail partner will anchor the development. One option is a medical-focused tenant, he says.

Friction point: East Bank Development Authority board member Nathaniel Carter questioned whether a Nashville resident making minimum wage could afford to rent even the most-affordable unit in the new development.

• Brewer responded that he understood the concern and the hope is vouchers will be available to help cover the costs.

Zoom out: Once complete, the East Bank redevelopment is set to include a mixture of housing, businesses and green space, as well as big anchors like a new Tennessee Performing Arts Center facility, Titans stadium and Oracle campus.

What's next: Brewer says the plan is to submit the building permit application in December, setting the stage for excavation work to begin in May.

• That would make the project the first private development to break ground on Metro-owned land surrounding the new Nissan Stadium.
