If you've ever wanted a peak behind the curtain to see how our stories come together, this oat milk latte is a good starting point.
- A reporter never knows where their next story idea will come from. It could be a friend, a neighbor, a former coworker.
- There are also people paid to suggest stories to journalists. Flacks, we call them.
Why it matters: A few weeks ago we asked Axios Nashville readers for suggestions on where we could get a good oat milk latte, which are gaining in popularity nationally and in Tennessee. A publicist (flack) emailed us to recommend their client Café Babu.
- Although we typically take such pitches with a grain of salt, in this case, we're glad we listened.
- Café Babu is one of Nashville's best and most unique coffee shops.
Zoom in: The Babu latte, served with cardamom and oat milk, was a smooth and invigorating sip. They even serve it with a small slice of baklava.
- Café Babu is located in the burgeoning Chestnut Hill neighborhood, but the decor makes you feel like you're stepping into a hip coffee shop in India.
💭 Nate's thought bubble: The coffee was so good, I decided to rev up my old heart and order two lattes. The iced mocha, finished with a dusting of cinnamon, was also incredible.
- The vibes make Babu more of a place to sit and talk as opposed to grinding out work.
- Although there were a few people pounding away at laptops, most of the folks were seated at the stylish stone table tops and engaged in conversations.
- I walked in right when the shop opened at 8am, and yet I was still fourth in line. Café Babu seems to be quite popular.
Zoom out: We also wanted to shout out the oat milk offerings at Deja Moo, located in suburban Springfield and White House.
- "Deja Moo has a drink called the Black Betty Latte, which has blackberry, honey, and oat milk 'mixed to make the most magical sip,'" reader Phil L. tells us. It's one of my favorite drinks!"
Little Rad Market in Belle Meade also got a shout out for its oak milk-friendly offerings.
- Emily M. praised their beautifully balanced banana bread chai latte, which is made with real bananas.
- "It's a great up and coming coffee shop to keep an eye on as they redesign their coffee program," she says.
🍌 Adam's take: I tried the banana bread chai latte with oat milk at Emily's suggestion. It was the ultimate fall sip, with a delicious dose of cinnamon that melded well with the creamy undercurrent of banana.
- Yes, but: I was deeply jealous of multiple customers enjoying towering swirls of frozen yogurt before noon. I will be back soon to test out their many soft serve toppings.
