Nashville airport unveils Concourse D expansion

Starting Tuesday, travelers at the Nashville International Airport will have access to a sprawling expansion that adds five new gates, eight shops and restaurants, and an outdoor terrace with skyline views.

Why it matters: The Concourse D extension adds 161,854 square feet to the airport footprint. The project part of a $3 billion growth plan.

Zoom in: The new space includes BNA's first moving walkway, three art installations and a rotunda with floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic views.

The outdoor terrace, another first, will give passengers a space to lounge while drinking in views of the airfield and downtown Nashville.

What's next: The $3 billion New Horizons expansion calls for several other projects, including an upcoming overhaul of Concourse A.

"The New Horizon projects are essential to enabling BNA's ability to support 40 million annual passengers in the future," Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority president and CEO Doug Kreulen said in a statement.
