Tennessee college campuses ranked among the nation's most beautiful

State of play: The university's lush landscape includes more than 6,000 trees and shrubs.

• Condé Nast praised the "blanket of pink and white flowers" that cover the pathways in springtime, when students take their studying outside to one of the university's several grassy lawns.

Zoom out: Two other Tennessee colleges made the list of the nation's prettiest campuses.

The University of the South (also known as Sewanee) had to be a no-brainer.

Fun fact: At 13,000 gorgeous acres, Sewanee's campus on the Cumberland Plateau is big enough to hold more than 38 Vanderbilts.

• There are forests, bluffs, meadows, lakes and caves. And the Gothic architecture is postcard perfect.

Rhodes College in Memphis also made the list. Condé Nast singled out the striking multi-colored stonework on the buildings at the center of campus, which resemble mosaic artwork from afar.
