Nashville International Airport is once again near the top of the national rankings for firearms discovered in carry-ons.
By the numbers: The Transportation Security Administration reports agents found 188 guns at Nashville airport security checkpoints in 2024.
BNA ranks fifth nationally for gun seizures at airports.
Zoom out: Nashville's airport is a regular near the top of that list.
The big picture: Nationwide, TSA officers found 6,678 firearms at checkpoints last year.
Reality check: Many of the airports with the most confiscated guns also happen to be among the busiest. But this year, BNA logged more confiscated firearms than busier airports in New York, Chicago and Denver.
What happens: When a TSA agent sees a firearm during an X-ray, they immediately contact the airport law enforcement agency to remove the weapon.
Travelers can face criminal and civil penalties if they are discovered with a gun in their carry-on.
