Shaboozey notches record-tying 19th week at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100

Shaboozey's reign at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" has now stretched on for 19 weeks, tying the record set by Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road."

Why it matters: Shaboozey has become one of country music's brightest new stars after storming onto the scene earlier this year with features on Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter." He's also helped the genre extend its dominant presence in popular music this year.

What he's saying: "I can't believe it," Shaboozey said of his latest chart milestone. "I spent so much of my life working and just trying to get here, and because of you guys, my life is forever changed."

State of play: In many ways, Shaboozey's song, which blends heartbreak, hard-drinking and boot-stomping beats is classic country — complete with the shoutout to Jack Daniels. But it's also ground-breaking.

Shaboozey is the first Black male artist to top Billboard's Hot Country Songs and Hot Country Airplay charts at the same time. (The song has been at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart for 23 weeks and counting.)

Zoom in: The song also includes a sample of J-Kwon's 2004 hit "Tipsy," touching on another country trend of incorporating elements of hip-hop and rap alongside banjo and fiddle.

The bottom line: "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" might be the ultimate anthem of Lower Broadway hony-tonks, where echoes of hip-hop and rock blend together with country standards.
