MNPS posts top student growth scores for third straight year

Between the lines: Districts are assigned scores one through five based on how students improved overall. It's the first time MNPS scored a five for three years in a row.

• Students are measured for growth in math, science and language arts based on the annual TCAP test.

What they're saying: "Our goal is to ensure every student receives the resources, support, and high-quality instruction they need to succeed — and this recognition confirms we are moving in the right direction," MNPS superintendent Adrienne Battle said in a press release.

• "This accomplishment showcases the strength of our MNPS family and the collaborative spirit that drives us forward," school board chair Freda Player said.

Reality check: Although MNPS has shown clear progress on standardized tests, overall scores released earlier this year show there's still room for improvement.

• According to the data, 29.5% of students met or exceeded expectations in math, and 29.6% met or beat expectations in language arts.
