Metro Nashville Public Schools improved on annual standardized tests in every subject and across every grade level, according to district data released this week.
Why it matters: Standardized tests are one piece of the puzzle in evaluating a school district's performance.
- MNPS demonstrated growth on both the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) tests and annual end-of-course assessments.
Zoom in: The percentage of students whose scores are categorized as met or exceeded expectations in math, English language arts, science and social studies increased compared to 2023's results.
- MNPS also saw declines in the percentage of students whose scores are categorized as below expectations in math, ELA and social studies.
- Math results for high school students across Tennessee will be released in the fall.
By the numbers: The percentage of students meeting or exceeding expectations in math increased from 26.4% last year to 29.5% this year.
- In ELA, 29.6% of MNPS students met or exceeded expectations compared to 27.4% the year before.
The big picture: MNPS also outpaced statewide growth in all four categories, according to the district's analysis.
- Statewide, 39% of all students met or exceeded expectations in ELA and 40% in math (grades 3-8), 44% in science and 45% in social studies.
What they're saying: MNPS touted the test results as a "significant achievement" in a press release.
- "Seeing growth in every tested category, across every grade level, all while outpacing the state, is unprecedented for MNPS, and it is a testament to the dedication and commitment our teachers and staff have shown to support the academic growth of our students," MNPS director Adrienne Battle said in a statement.
