U.S. Rep. Andy Ogles defeated Democratic challenger Maryam Abolfazli to retain his seat in Tennessee's 5th Congressional District.
- Ogles is a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus and has the backing of former President Trump.
The big picture: This is the second election cycle since state lawmakers redrew Tennessee's congressional map to convert Nashville from a safe Democratic district into three majority-Republican districts.
- Ogles and the two other Republican House members representing the Nashville area entered the election as apparent favorites. Their advantages proved decisive, as they all sailed to comfortable victories.
Zoom in: Democrats hoped Ogles would be vulnerable because he is under federal investigation over campaign finance report discrepancies.
- Over the summer, Ogles confirmed the FBI had seized his cellphone and gained access to his personal Gmail account as part of the probe.
The other side: His opponent Abolfazli was a first-time candidate who became one of the state's most prominent gun control advocates in the wake of The Covenant School shooting in Nashville last year.
7th Congressional District: Mark Green wins reelection
Incumbent U.S. Rep. Mark Green announced he wouldn't run for reelection earlier this year, before changing his mind at the behest of Trump and other Republicans.
- More recently, his campaign was sidetracked by drama after his wife accused him of having an affair.
But Green easily toppled former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry, who staged a well-funded challenge featuring a robust ground game and two television ads.
Between the lines: Despite her defeat, Barry's entry into the race marked a political comeback for her in Nashville several years after an affair cut short her mayoral tenure and led to a felony charge.
6th Congressional District: John Rose wins reelection
U.S. Rep. John Rose secured reelection before a possible bid for governor in 2026.
- His Democratic opponent, activist Lore Bergman, was long considered a decisive underdog.
