Dolly Parton, other country stars fund Helene recovery

State of play: Eric Church, a North Carolina native, announced last week he would put royalties from his new song "Darkest Hour" toward Helene recovery there.

• Morgan Wallen donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross, and his charity foundation is collecting funds and food.

Zoom in: Parton's donation will go to the Mountain Ways Foundation, which is supporting relief work in East Tennessee and western North Carolina. She announced the funding Friday outside a Walmart in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains.

• Walmart CEO John Furner appeared alongside Parton to announce the company would commit $10 million to the recovery.

What she's saying: "These are my people and this is my home," Parton said.

• "This is a time for me to step up again — for all of us to step up and do what we can."
• "It's going to take a lot of money, as you know, and it's going to take a long time."
