Temperatures will near triple digits this weekend in Nashville as a dangerous heat wave expands across the United States.
The big picture: In a typical year, extreme heat is the top weather-related killer in the nation. The first heat wave of the season carries heightened health risks, since people are not yet accustomed to the high temperatures.
Based on NWS forecasts, 241 million Americans will likely see temperatures at or above 90°F during the next seven days.
Zoom in: In Nashville, temperatures are forecast to top out in the low-90s today and tomorrow, but could swell as high as 97°F on Sunday.
