Rashida Tlaib wins bid for 4th congressional term

Democratic U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a key member of the House's progressive "Squad," defeated Republican challenger James D. Hooper to win reelection, the Associated Press reported.

State of play: Tlaib, a native Detroiter with Palestinian immigrant parents, currently serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.

The House last year voted to censure her for her criticisms of Israel and defense of a controversial pro-Palestinian chant.

The big picture: Tlaib has been a key pro-Palestinian, progressive critic of the Biden administration's stance on the Israel-Hamas war.

She urged Michigan Democrats to vote "uncommitted" in the state's primary in February rather than for President Biden.
