Women's health advocates in Texas launched a website this past summer to educate families about the state's laws surrounding reproductive health.
The intrigue: Asking for a Mom was designed as a nonpartisan public education campaign to clear any confusion Texans may have about the state's abortion restrictions.
Vibe check: The website has colorful branding and one-pagers explaining Texas' 2025 Life of the Mother Act and its potential impacts on patients.
- "The bottom line is, you deserve health care. You don't have to hesitate. And Texas law clarifies how you are protected," the website says.
- The website goes on to explain what counts as a medical emergency, answers patients' frequently asked questions and includes resources for doctors.
What they're saying: "Access to clear, medically reviewed information can help Texas families understand their options, navigate difficult situations with confidence and seek the care they need," Kristen Lenau, who chairs the Texas Women's Healthcare Coalition, tells Axios in a statement.
Yes, but: The website is intended as an educational resource and should not replace conversations with a physician, Dallas-based OBGYN Deborah Fuller tells Axios.
- "But we often see our patients feel much more comfortable and reassured when they have information to refer to as their pregnancies progress," Fuller says.
