Your social life just got easier to plan, thanks to a new platform that consolidates local arts and culture events into one calendar.
Why it matters: The Arts Community Alliance (TACA) and Dallas' Office of Arts and Culture have launched Culturalyst Dallas, which promotes local arts organizations and their events in one place.
The big picture: Dallas is the largest city to join Culturalyst. The platform, a website with a mobile interface, is also in cities in Arizona, Connecticut, Louisiana and Missouri.
- "Artists can guide us out of the billionaire fever dream of extractive, addictive technology. We think the best place to start is by building a coalition of arts agencies to build shared technology," Culturalyst's founders say on their website.
How it works: Artists and organizations can add performances, exhibits and other opportunities to the platform. They can also promote grants, auditions, jobs and other training opportunities.
- Access to the site is free.
What they're saying: "By working together through Culturalyst, we can make it easier for artists and organizations to share what's happening across the city, while giving the community a more connected way to discover and engage with Dallas arts and culture," TACA director of programs Anne Kogan said in a statement.
Zoom in: Teatro Dallas artistic producer Mac Welch says he waited years to find a tool like Culturalyst. He hopes the calendar will create more opportunities for collaboration and "give people a better sense of just how much is happening across Dallas' arts community."
- "For an arts organization, creatively reaching first-time patrons is always a battle, and Culturalyst gives us a firm foundation in that fight," Welch says.
