The Japan and Sweden match at Dallas Stadium last night ended in a 1-1 draw, and both teams advanced to the Round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup.
The intrigue: Japan's first match was also a draw, against the Netherlands at Dallas Stadium.
Zoom in: Sweden is using Frisco's Toyota Stadium as its World Cup base camp and has FC Dallas defender Herman Johansson on the roster.
Johansson is helping his teammates acclimate to the North Texas heat, he told the Dallas Morning News before the tournament began.
What they're saying: Thousands of soccer lovers gathered at the FIFA Fan Festival in Dallas to watch the Japan-Sweden match, which was followed by the USA-Turkey match at 9pm.
"The Fan Festival was really fun, but the (Japan-Sweden) match was so much suffering," Nicolas Ortiz, who traveled from Tokyo to follow the Japan team, told Axios.
What's next: Japan plays Brazil in Houston on Monday in the first knockout round of the tournament. Sweden's opponent hasn't been decided.
Meanwhile, the U.S. finished first in its group and will play Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 on Wednesday.
