Driving the news: Fans subscribed to updates from the team should look for an email with their survey link. We received ours on Friday.

• "This effort is focused on understanding what fans value most in a live NBA and entertainment experience," the survey site says.

State of play: The Mavs are asking fans to assume the arena will open in 2031.

• The team says it's considering building a mixed-use entertainment district with an arena, housing, retail and outdoor spaces.

The intrigue: The survey asks fans about their likelihood of attending games in Downtown Dallas, North Dallas or a suburb.
