Arlington prepares for its 1st Grand Prix

• "We've hosted a lot of big things in our city. We've never hosted anything that looks quite like this," Arlington police spokesperson Tim Ciesco told NBC5.

The intrigue: The track winds around AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field and has 14 turns, with speeds expected to exceed 180 mph.

• Sunday's main race will have 70 laps, covering around 191 miles.

State of Prix: Fans can watch several races this weekend, starting with practices and qualifiers on Friday and ending with the GR Cup's final race and the Grand Prix's main race on Sunday.

• All Time Low performs Friday evening. T-Pain and DJ Disco Lines perform Sunday afternoon.

Flashback: Arlington has hosted races before. Less than a mile from the city's entertainment district, a track once hosted races sanctioned by the AAA Contest Board, which helped lay the foundation for modern open-wheel and IndyCar racing.

• Built by oilman and rancher W.T. Waggoner, Arlington Downs opened in 1929 as a horse racing venue for 6,000 spectators and evolved to host rodeos, auto races and other events.
