Mansfield, Frisco to serve as FIFA World Cup base camps

Catch up quick: FIFA doesn't allow venues to use their pre-existing naming rights for the World Cup.

• Toyota Stadium will be called FC Dallas Stadium and Texas Health Mansfield Stadium will be called Mansfield Stadium. AT&T Stadium, which is hosting nine games, will be referred to as Dallas Stadium for the World Cup.

State of play: Frisco will host Albania, Poland, Sweden or Ukraine, depending on the winner of the UEFA Europa League's Play-Off Path B.

• Mansfield will host the Czech Republic, Denmark, North Macedonia or the Republic of Ireland, depending on the winner of the UEFA Europa League's Play-Off Path B.

Fun fact: Mansfield Stadium, designed as a multi-use soccer complex for the North Texas Soccer Club, cost around $88 million to build and is expected to bring in $15-$40 million as a World Cup base camp, NBC5 reports.

• The stadium is expected to be completed over the next few weeks.

• "Mansfield will make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Mayor Michael Evans said in a statement.

Zoom in: FIFA also tapped the Downtown Fort Worth Sheraton to serve as a team hotel for Mansfield Stadium and the Westin Dallas Stonebriar Golf Resort in Frisco for FC Dallas Stadium.

• The Fort Worth Sheraton is unavailable for new bookings from June 12-July 16. As of Thursday, the Westin still had rooms available, though rates ranged from $309-$566 per night during the tournament.
