Southwest is adding overnight flights from Las Vegas and Los Angeles to Dallas Love Field starting Oct. 1.
Why it matters: It's Southwest against the other airlines now.
After ditching free bags and open seating, the Dallas-based airline has had to step up its offerings to compete with other airlines, which already fly overnight routes and have modernized aircraft.
The airline will have 53 daily red-eyes by October, including its first international red-eye between Las Vegas and San Jose, Costa Rica.
The latest: Fresh off a board realignment, Southwest announced this week that it will expand its red-eye flights and transition to Space X's Starlink for in-flight WiFi.
Zoom in: The overnight flights from Vegas and L.A. will be Love Field's first red-eye flights. They went on sale yesterday.
The daily flight from Las Vegas will depart at 1:25am, and the flight from Los Angeles will leave at 1am. Both flights will arrive in Dallas around 6am.
Between the lines: The red-eye flights to Dallas will help travelers with connections to other cities, Southwest spokesperson Chris Perry tells Axios.
Reality check: American and Spirit already offer red-eye flights from L.A. to DFW Airport.
American and Frontier have red-eye flights from Vegas to DFW.
